General Introduction

FOREWORD BY THE DEPARTMENT HEAD

Advances in New Media and Communication Technologies have led to an increase in the need for qualified communication professionals to be employed in the media sector. As a department, our aim is to provide an education that will respond to these needs and to provide our students with all the qualities that a reporter/journalist should have. With the education we provide, we aim to develop both the theoretical background of our students and to provide them with practical skills.

As the Department of Journalism, we follow current developments and prepare our lesson plan accordingly. With our competent academic staff, we have made it our main goal to be one of the best journalism departments in Turkey and to represent our faculty in the international arena.

We are happy to have idealistic and entrepreneurial young people who aim to become successful journalists in our faculty. We believe that we will accomplish successful works with all our students and academic staff in our department.

HISTORY

Our department started education by admitting students to the first education program in the 2017-2018 academic year. In the staff of our department; 1 Professor, 3 Associate Professors, 3 Dr. There are a total of 7 faculty members, including Lecturer. There are a total of 7 faculty members and 1 research assistant.  The academic and administrative staff of our department, which is sufficient in the current situation, will be further enriched within the scope of the long-term Education Strategic Plan.

MISSION

To be a quality-oriented, innovative and entrepreneurial department that develops and implements sustainable qualified strategic education plans in order to train individuals with professional knowledge, technical equipment, national and universal cultural values, high self-confidence, who can effectively work as journalists in the national and international arena.

VISION

To be a pioneering and distinguished Journalism Department in Turkey with qualified human resources with high level of communication skills, a libertarian management approach that values the corporate culture, supports original studies, and aims for quality-oriented development

PURPOSE

As the staff of our department, our aim is to train successful and competent journalists by providing an education in accordance with the current needs of the media sector and academic requirements and to carry out joint scientific, cultural, social and professional studies with local, national and international press organizations.

OBJECTIVES

The main goal of our department is to educate problem-solving, self-confident, innovative and entrepreneurial graduates who know the rights, responsibilities and ethical values of the journalism profession, are sensitive to social problems, have gained an academic and scientific perspective, can transfer the scientific theoretical data they have obtained to practice, can use communication technologies effectively, and are problem solvers. Within the framework of this main goal, short, medium and long term sub-goals have also been determined. These are

OPPORTUNITIES OF ÇOMÜ FACULTY OF COMMUNICATION AND JOURNALISM DEPARTMENT

Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University has a strong infrastructure for practicing journalism. The university has a practice newspaper (ÇOMÜ Gazete), a practice television (ÇOMÜ TV), a shooting and editing studio and a radio (Kampüs FM).

ÇOMÜ Newspaper

With ÇOMÜ Newspaper, which is published within Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, our students have the opportunity to apply what they have learned theoretically in the field of journalism in practice. Our students will be able to practice the basic principles of journalism such as news writing, news photography, interview techniques, column writing, corporate communication in ÇOMÜ Newspaper.

Shooting and Editing Studio

In our studio of approximately 50 square meters, students have the opportunity to shoot and edit for TV Journalism. In these studios where practical courses on TV Journalism are also given; the technical basics of TV Journalism are transferred to students.

 Kampüs FM 104.7

Kampüs FM is a radio station established within our university and has a wide range of facilities. Kampüs FM, which continues its broadcasting life in modern studios equipped with the latest technology, both enables students of the Faculty of Communication to gain professional experience and gives all university students the opportunity to prepare and present programs. With the opportunities offered by Kampüs FM, our students have the opportunity to practice radio journalism.

 ÇOMÜ TV - Application Television

ÇOMÜ TV, which operates within Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, started its activities in 2013. The application television, which has all the necessary technical infrastructure, offers its broadcasts through its web page.

With University Television, our students have the opportunity to practice broadcasting, news and programming.
